An Interactive Awareness Session On Dyslexia And Other Learning Difficulties At Model School Banigala, Islamabad.

Interactive awareness session about Dyslexia and other learning difficulties was held for the parents at the Islamabad Model School & College f-6/2.

This is part of our “Pilot Project of Dyslexia” which was initiated by Team IDEAS Institute of Dyslexia Education & Attitudinal Studies in collaboration with the Ministry of Education. MNA and the Parliamentary Secretary of Education Miss Zeb Jaffar has been spearheading this project diligently. It was a pure delight seeing the jam-packed hall and the positive response of the parents was heartwarming.
Due to the lack of awareness, most of the parents are in denial but what I experienced today was contrary to my expectations. The parents surprised us with their response and courage when they openly spoke about their child’s challenges in school, the emotional and physical abuse, and the negative attitude of their teachers. We felt as if the parents were waiting for such a platform where they could share everything without being judged. Quite a few confessed to their negative parenting skills and assured us that they will make amends to improve their relationship with their children.
It was an awesome session where we learnt a lot and will be able to highlight the weak areas of our system to the policymakers.
